That was a hard fought battle! We were assigned with cap for 56 and found the Bostons out over the water to the west. Somehow we got in between the bombers and their escort and shot down a number of drones before we were bounced by the Spit9 escort. It was a big mess, and when we tried to dive away to disengage, probably 75% of the escort followed us down to the deck, forming a furball just north of 56. I had two Spits 800 yards off my 6 while doing 550mph+.
That was us(13MPG) in the spit 9's GAVANGI. We spilt our squad (escorts) into a front and rear group. The lynchmob was in the bostons. Our initial contacts were about 2 k above us and zoomed in and rolled for the bostons.. From then on, it was a NASTY furball as we decended to (
hell) as it would be. We did leave some with the bombers, but the axis rides were to many. Was my call to be close escort. Seemed to be the wrong one. But, you win some, and loose some.
To my guys for kicking and screaming on the way down!
To the axis for sniffing the attack out, and ripping it to pieces. We have some screen shots of 4 different kinds of axis planes following a single 13th pink spit 9.. Our guys had fun, but it was quick! Salute to all..
See you next week....
Tuk151Ps. Just curious to see how many axis squads encountered our battle. Target was v60, we didnt make it there tho
