No, although the swallows were European, the coconuts were actually African, hence dispelling the oft-repeated misconception about the swallows "tranporting" the coconuts to Europe. In actuality, both the swallows AND the coconuts were flown across the Mediterannean in 4-seat Messerschmitt 108 "Taifuns," painted to look like Me-109 fighters, just as was done in the movie "633 Squadron".

... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB
