Grassland fire
« on: March 20, 2009, 06:25:35 PM »
Its getting time for Kansas grassland on fire.  This pix was taken last Saturday morning 1:30 am.  Air temp 55 degree, slight south wind 10 mph, dew point 40%.  This land was about 800 ac., the biggest prescribed burning i have done was around 3000 acres. Took 4 hours but it was fun.  fireline close to a mile long.  A nice slow burn, however, this rancher is a month early to burn.  The ideal time to burn in this area is early April to mid May.

We usually light up Southern California in the fall after a long dry summer while Santa Ana winds roar through.   Then we like to burn up areas the size of New Hampshire.  Pics of SoCal fires are usually on the new.
