yeah for what you want i recommend FL (used to be fruity loops when it was free)
but a bit higher up i recommend buying a good sequencer and running with midi into Adobe Audition
ive got a Korg ESX-1 and its great, pressure sensitive keys and i find it easy for me to make my loops, melodies, beats and what not on it and finr tune it with Audition
i prefer it this way because it is easier to put down melodies etc and turn em into loops my tapping them out with ya fingers like on a piano
rather than constantly playing it out and changing it just using trial and error with the waveform
im just waiting for the comp-a-glove to be made
its a glove with buttons on the finger tips that you can load notes loops samples etc on it and tap out melodies anywhere and save em.
so for example your driving to work and ya get a good tune in ya head and ya want to remember it just put the glove on tap it out and save it
easy
i just find the analog input easier when working with original melodies etc
