Blue water, brown water. 2 subs in open water is still the best IMO. US hit's surface vessels all the time(sarcasm). Thinking back afew years ago, about the Hawaii collision. Russians must be next.

See in the US we do it the right way.  Collide with our own ships.  That way we don't have to apologize to any other countries.

The Greenville. (SP?) I met a guy who worked on her... She has the worst history of any boat I have heard! TWO surface collisions, two or three underwater collisions with things like undersea mountains, and I believe he said she ran aground heading back to the East Coast to repair/refit!

The nuclear submarine force is not as effective as it was 20-30 years ago.  They were at their peak during the Cold War.  There are more of these collisions and mishaps now than ever and there are less submarines in the force.

The windows were probably dirty.  Couldn't see where they were going.  Or, maybe a headlight out.

The one they donated to a museum in Providence, RI sank at its berth during a storm because the hatches were not water proof.

These hatches were weather-tight but not waterproof--the oval surface ship type that could be dogged shut.

Under the conditions described above, the access hatch to the aft torpedo room eventually started to slowly flood. Sub crew members wanted to go aboard to to start pumps or turn on compressors, but public safety officials would not allow anyone to go aboard.
