Sad to say a great drummer died Tuesday
« on: March 25, 2009, 06:36:06 PM »
Uriel Jones...who along with Benny Benjamin and "Pistol" Allen were the beat of the Funk Brothers passed away from a heart attack Tuesday.

Great Drummer also.  Listen to the song Shotgun by Jumior Walker, that is Uriel Jones on the drums.

He will be missed greatly by many.

Truly a sad day.   He's finally with Van Dyke and Jamerson again though.   Read about it today in The Detroit News.

Hearing "Van Dyke" play the piano on "Baby Love" is great to hear.   No effort, but one of my favorite "Van Dyke is up front" tunes.

When I worked with Ford, one of my very good friends there and I still miss to this day.   His cousin was a Marvelette.   Everyone knew it and he'd always talk about her, but he was down to Earth.   He was also floored to see someone my age, so knowledgeable on Motown.   He'd often "double-take" and we'd just laugh.

I going to step forward and say that I have absolutely no idea who those people are.

A quick youtube search for my forum username will probably provide you with all the answers you need for why that is, though.

I live under a muscial boulder and I like the dark down there, so I never know who anyone is when it comes to music.
