Gun Camera

Perhaps a nice addition? When you squeeze the trigger, a film is automatically being recorded, untill you stop firing.
Of course you could hit alt+r (or was it cntrl+r ?) when you're about to fire, but hey, laziness is a blessing :)

'Why not run a film of the whole fight?'

Not too sure about that, this seems more authentic to me  :aok

As bad as my fighter gunnery is, this would help.

I just programmed a button on my stick to start film. I make the decision to engage in most fights, so the first thing I do in a fight is hit the film switch. Film runs until I have time to stop and save it..... or when I'm in the tower  :D

Or just hit the auto film feature so you can see what you did throughout the whole sortie... I think it's more useful that 2-3 seconds of film.

The only thing 2-3 seconds of film would be good for is when you take screenshots.

There is a "gun cam" program out there you can use with AH. Its like FRAPS, it will run in the back ground and not use a lot of your resources. You can set it up to activate when you pull your trigger like a hot key. Google search "gun cam programs for flight sims". I found it once before and don't remember what it was called. Its free BTW.

I kind of like this idea - perhaps set it so that the film would roll for 5 minutes after the first trigger pull (this way you could "capture" the whole fight) and an additional 5 minutes after each successive pull after that? Not sure how do-able this is though - how would you name the films in game?

On the other hand the guys that kill me with one ping would have some pretty booring films...

Also, I wouldn't want to see this replace the existing film options we already have.

Been asking for this since 99.  Love the idea, wish they would add it.

I kinda' like the idea.

Another thing about "authentic" looking gun camera films is that they are not filmed from inside the cockpit, but out on the wing with no obstructions to the plane under attack. I may be wrong, but I don't think it is currently possible to make AH films look exactly like real gun cam films. I don't think the external or trail views let you move the view forward of the cockpit.

OOOPs  :huh - Just saw the Gun Cam checkbox on the AH film viewer -  :lol

And, on top of that, you can indeed move your view to any place outside the cockpit in the AH film viewer,

Well, I could again be wrong, but what I tried was "external" (and "trail) which put me directly behind the a/c, then "z" key to zoom, then "]" key ( or else "[" ) to increase the zoom to max. I could only get to the cockpit, not farther forward. Sure you can move around in any direction. but if you want to be forward of the a/c looking forward, I don't see how. In any case there's no need with the Gun Cam checkbox.   :D

From the plain old internal view, use the arrow keys.  That will give you what Lusche is describing.
