Just another way to gauge yourself, never look at stats as the be all end all of reality though.

Those that say stats don't matter are correct and wrong at the same time.  They mean some things completely different to different people.

For me, I have goals - so many kills in a certain plane before I switch planes unless I have to use that other plane for a more specific task.

It helps me gauge myself too.  I noticed that I wasn't doing well in attack mode.  Well, this made me focus on my intended target.  Fly lonewolf or with my bro 99% of the time will do that, but often the goal is common. Stop the hoard or bring down the enemy.  Usually when you think about it, it is cut and dry.  So if you are attacking, get to your target or abort the mission, don't try to fight on the way there.  The stats helped me with this (a little)

Bombing - I learned that my hit ratio wasn't so hot.  I like to carpet bomb at times, esp with a bomber group.  So yea I'm not going to have the best stats there.  But when I want to, I'm pretty precise.  And I REALLY kick but in the b26 gunner slots.  So I don't even look at that.

I like to checkout my fighter ranks too.  If I am over 1.5 then I know I'm doing ok, if not then I know that whatever it is I'm doing isn't working.  IE: trying to fly the p51 too much low and slow.

I'm a stats pig.  I love stats. I played a game called Asherons Call for years just to pump my stats.  I was addicted to getting that one stat a little higher so I could do certain tasks easier - so I could pump more stats. :)

This game is dif though. The only gauge on your ability is the stats when you gauge them vs yourself - NOT OTHERS.

1) What does putting everything in attack do for you?
2) Do you only get scores for attacking a ground target ie objects, GV's?
3) What is the pros and cons of using either one?

1) Nothing really unless you are willing to do a lot of tower sitting from what I can see. The obvious primary goal would be to preserve a high kill per sortie count and hit percentage while also using very little time in fighter mode. I think the number one guy is probably using a chog from a CV to vultch a field after he has his roadies shoot the ack down. This is why you see him landing kills in that airplane. I know because I tried to dive on him one day and had HO after HO by other people in an attempt to protect him while he ran to the CV.

2) If you look attack is broken down in air stats and ground stats so each is calculated seperately except for gunnery which is always a hit or miss count. It looks like attack is used by the semi-honest scorers to down lone aircraft while defending airfields while if they were true scorers they would just announce a con over the airfield and remain in the tower because they dont want to mess up their score. I believe the number one guy uses attack mode to bomb and strafe tanks while avoiding the flaks and all the while having his roadies protect him from the air. I know because I tried to get at him at A1 on Trinity one day only to have HO after HO attempt by typhoons and 190s and Nikis while he ran to ten flaks.

3) See above.

The funny thing is when you go about it more 'honestly' (whatever you consider that to be) you have more fun but someone obviously thinks having his name posted every month is better then having fun.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

alright Fugitive

dissect my score, should be nice and easy.

I don't know what you want me to say. In my opinion your a fighter guy. Offense, defense it doesn't matter, nor does score. Your out having fun.

Just another way to gauge yourself, never look at stats as the be all end all of reality though. <snipped for space>

The way the scoring is set up now this is about all it good for, gauging your own progress. YOU know if your fudging the score, so you know what your numbers mean. Comparing your scores to someone elses is a waste of time, unless you know that person.

In the pictures I posted, I wouldn't have any trouble gauging myself against either of the first two pictures. I KNOW those guys fly strait up and aren't into tweaking their game to make their score look better. But I'm one of those guys that have been around forever, I know whos who, the new guys don't. I'm sure many are in the same boat of striving to be like their "hero. Unfortunately in most cases their hero is just some clown tweaking his score.

Everyone needs some kind of score system. To some guys like INK and Corky Jr they only score they seem to need is to have fun and the occasional kill. Others need ranking, and others need to be at the top of the heap no matter what. Thats why HTC will never get rid of scores, too many people base their gameplay off of it, its the only "goal" they have. Thats the main reason I think it could be tweaked to adjust gameplay in the arenas. Its the "carrot" I would use to lead a majority of the players with.

Thanks Fugitive.  I do like your idea of correcting the rank system and points awarded by landing vice bailing, but that's just the start to correct the loopholes or cracks that someone will take advantage of.   :aok

Let me assure you that my questions are not coming from me comparing my scores to anyone elses, I don't even pay attention to mine, if I get shot down, I dint look to see if it changes anything, I make sure I dont make that mistake again.
I dont even know who is the top 100 or even the top 1000.  From time to time I happen to see mine because I use the clipboard roster to see who is on, not to see scores.

I dont know how to manipulate this game and have no desire to do such a thing, however I am interested in knowing how THEY do it for another devious reason, because maybe I can change my play to affect their play.
For example, recently I shot down this particular player bombing cities, factories, etc etc. completely away from any threats, I had no idea what this guys intent was and gave chase, shot him down and joked him with the squad for doing it, conversation came up that this guy was ranked high and probably was padding his score and that I may have pissed him off since I shot him down.  From that moment on I went looking for just that and found plenty of guys doing it, I would come in low and pop up while they were busy killing boxes and the chase would be on.   :lol  I dont see it as often and maybe its because they know its not as easy when someone may be watching for it.

Your absolutely right that many are doing some gamey stuff and its evident in their scores, even if they rank high.
By no means do I worship anyones score or by default respect them, its good to know that many players do play with at least some ethics and sportsmanship, each person that has responded here as far as I can see is not gaming this game as we have pointed out and I surely did not expect one of the score bandits to admit to everyone  here on HOW they do it.

-- ,,,, or really want to know some of the ways to "game the game" ,,,, but I would be happy to respond to a PM with what little knowledge I have.

I would be happy to know some of the ways to game the game as for reasons stated above.  Thanks for everyones insight, I think if everyone has an idea of what to look for it would be easier to determine who the posers are and who are more deserving.
 :salute

Would my plane have to hit the ground intact to score? :rofl

When I'm feeling gamey, I'll try to take an undefended base! :aok

That may explain why most of the top 100 can be easily killed and are so timid.

You are quite full of pomposity and disengenuousness. In one post you don't know who they are, in a previous post you call most of them timid. It is easy to see what you are.

To the original question
Item 1.

We used to have it in one catagory. But hit % gets realy messed up, I.E. you could pad your fighter hit % by just shooting buildings. To fix that problem we made 2 catagoryies for those who do both, and those who just do air to air.
