Regarding that one with the concentration of lights down the east coast...I never realized until I moved to DC just what a massive and almost continuous line of population there is from DC into Baltimore into Philly into Newark into New York. The suburbs of each city mix into one another, and form almost a constant chain of density over a pretty long distance. Such a huge chunk of the US population lives in a relatively small space...
