Looks like Tu-2 is better choice to fast bomber than Mosquito.
20-30 mph better top-speed in sealevel (FB. MK VI / Tu-2S), About same speed in 15000ft, much better bomb load and defensive armament of 3*12,3mm UBT.
It will be a good add to AHs planeset  :)

Pyro, did you see the Tu-2 pilot's manual? Unfortunately the link I had is broken, so now I am contacting Yakov Filatov who scanned it.

AFAIR I showed that scanned manual to Wells and maybe to some other WB/AH players.

It has all the cockpit views, but in b/w schematic drawings.

Staga, if the link you posted is accurate, the Mosquito is faster than the Tu2 at all altitudes, about 30mph faster at sea level.

OK, Fatty, you have totally lost me there.

...but do I get a pecentage of the gross if the theory works out?

Nashwan I saw a text which gave Mosquito FB Mk VI three different speeds (0 ft ms gear, rest fs gear):
With load, only with rails under wings and clean.
                       0ft  13900  20700
Max Speed (loaded)      278    327    329
Max Speed ( only rails) 286    336    337
Max Speed (clean)       296    351    358

And Tu-2S @ sealevel 482/509kmh = 299/316mph and in 5400km alt 547kmh=347mph

Of course these might not be correct numbers but anyway it is fast, have defensive armament and good load  :)

The Tu-2 would be more fun than the Mosquito because not only does it have defensive armament, but it has 2x20mm (or 23mm) for strafing.  You can see the gunsite in the picture posted above.  The Mossy bomber version would just be a drop-and-run plane.

No, the Mosquito Fighter/Bomber had 4x20mm Hispano with 150-175 rds per gun, plus it had 4 .303 with some unholy large ammo load.

Plus it Could carry 2 bombs internally and 2 more on wing racks or 8 60lb warhead heavy rockets.

The Mosquito is better than this plane.

I'm glad that we're getting the Tu-2.  It'll give the Russian planeset a complete arsenal.  Now they need the T-34/76 or T-34/85.

Staga,

The Mosquito FB.MkVI Series 2 can do about 345mph on the deck when using WEP.  Top speed of the FB.VI Series 2 is 380mph at 13,000ft.

The difference between a Series 1 and 2 Mossie is the engines.  Series 1 had 1,460hp Merlin 21, 22 or 23 engines. Series 2 had 1,635hp Merlin 25 engines.

I'm hoping that the Tu-2 is indeed in v1.08.

Staga, the max speed clean is about right for a Mossie with "ducted saxophone" exhausts, ie those fitted for night operations. For day operations, clean, max speed was around 380mph.
Mosquito FB VIs had either Merlin 23 or 25, with max boost of either 12/18lb boost for the 25, 9/12lb for the 23. I've never seen reliable performance figures that quote which engines achieved which speeds. Does your source specify the engines and boost settings?
Most of the figures I have seen show a speed of 330-350mph at sea level. A page that gives the same table of speeds you gave (your source?) gives 336 at sea level for FB variants. http://www.home.gil.com.au/~bfillery/mossie02.htm

Edit: reply started before Karnak's was posted. I'm obviously a slow typer.

For the FB.VI Series II, 380mph is achieved with shrouded exhausts - multiple ejectors add 12mph. Staga's figures are the maximum cruising speeds.

The Tu-2 has a nice bombload - it can carry 1000kg internally, plus another two 1000kg bombs on wing racks; total bombload = 3000kg(or 600lbs more than the B-17). Top speed with full bombload would still be over 300mph at 18k.  :)

It would be very cool to have the Tu-2 and T-34 for scenarios, not to mention the spice it would bring to the MA.

The Tu-2 and the Mossie would both be excellent additions to AH. However, I have to say that I prefer the Tu-2 to the Mossie, because I don't have to look at some ugly mug sit'n next to me!  ;) .

Westy, awesome pics you posted there. Have any Tu-2s in the west ever been flyable, or are any being restored to flight status? Doubtful, but it would be cool to see one of those fly.

Never seen the pilot's manual for one.  Cockpit schematics would be great.  I think the hardest part will be getting photos of the gunner positions.  It's not critical but it would be nice to have instead of winging it.

Has anybody ever seen the book that Mason linked?
