I want a stick physically similar to the ST290...
« on: March 28, 2009, 11:56:10 PM »
But of higher quality. Haven't had any real issues with ST290s, but I'm wondering if a better stick could make my flying smoother/more steady.

Heres the thing: My viewing system works like this-"tip" of right thumb works the 8-way hatswitch, "heel" of right thumb simultaneosly depresses the center button when I want the "look up" modifier. Quite easy and natural for me with *this particular  brand of stick*. I'm not so sure how well it would work with any other stick. So I'd like to find a quality stick with a hatswitch and button configuration identical the ST290. A similar location for other buttons and the throttle would be a big plus but not absolutely nessecary.

"Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture, torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals."

I have the same stick.  The only thing I would change is move the throttle to the side of the base, but that's just me.

Not sure if it is better, but the Av8tor has a layout similar to that.  I am using it, simply because I needed something to replace my dieing 3D pro, and I didn't have money for CH.

There is an 8-way switch with a button right under it  Has a total of 12 buttons, 1x 8-way, a switch 2-way, 2 throttle.
Decent for me so far, yet to have troubles after a month or so, only trouble I have is Saitek's "looseness".

Hmmm...does this mean getting a more expensive stick won't accomplish much?

The only stick I know of that acts similarly is the Sidewinder (no longer available) but what would be so difficult about reprogramming yourself to use your pinky as on the CH Fighterstick?
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

I've got an ST290 and an AV8R.  The AV8R is much nicer but I don't think it would change your control at all.

I've also got an MS Sidewinder 3D Pro that I used for 12 years until I didn't have a gameport anymore.  Very similar feel to the Saiteks but much more solidly built (I've already trashed 2 Saiteks over the past year).  Again, I don't think it would improve your control.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

If you want a sidewinder, go with the MS Sidewinder Prec 2 USB.

Good ones sell for 15 - 30 $ with shipping if your patient and watch ebay regularly.
Be very very careful choosing.

Prec Pro's are not USB, although some shipped with a USB adapter.
Also I don't like the layout as well.

Otherwise I'd go see if anyone has the new Cyborg in stock.
