Ship convoys
« on: March 29, 2009, 01:34:04 PM »
After the Scenario yesterday where we used CV groups as supply convoys, IU thought it'd be cool if HTC designed special ships FOR scenarios. Not "needed" but I think it would be a nice touch.

Could be part of the strat... You get liberty ships (no AA?) with 1-2 escorts (for anti-sub protection, historically speaking) but have a giant fleet of 30 low-poly ships .

Maybe it resupplies fleets. Sink a CV, and a "supply fleet" is issued to that port. When it arrives the fleet respawns?

I was just looking at it in an eye-candy aspect for special events Krusty; but I do like that Carrier Respawn idea however

But the you can just vulch them.  It would just add another score racking mechanism to this already "I'm here for the high score and no more" person infested game.

No, the way I want them implemented...they'd only be used on special even maps

Some cargo and troop carrier etc. ships would be a very good addition to the game. Especially for the special events.

No. Booo. Bad idea. But I do think its time for a B-29.  :P

How about asking the map makers to make fleets with costom ships or a few fleets with just DDs in a convoy pattern.

Many strats already in-game have little or no AAA defenses. The proximity to friendly fields and the players they belong to are what defend it. Same thing with fleet resupply strats (in my suggestion). Wouldn't be any different

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah Larry I wasn't sure if they could do that or not. I agree Krusty this wouldn't be any different than MA strats. Fighter Groups would be assigned to defend a convoy in a scenario, FSO, etc...that would be its protection.

I do know that they can make costom fleets with just DDs and they can line them up in a box convoy. Another convoy we would have would be a kind of "battleship" convoy with four or five cruisers in a line with DD escorts around the perimeters. I'm not 100% about the costom ships but I do know you can make costom objects I just don't know if moving interactive ships are one of those. I have an old version of the "object editor" Ill go poke around and see what I can find.

Alright Larry thanks. I never knew they could do that with ship formations. I thought all they could do is just take the CV out and have blank space between the destroyers.

I couldn't figure out how to use that program. I do remember some TGs in a AvA/CT map that had no CV and was just a CA in the middle escorted by some DDs.

I think ships that actually look like transports would be nice. Plus, instead of making custom maps with special custom fleets, I'd rather have an automatic thing (think: convoys) on any map with water areas.

Yeah Krusty that would be something to look into if HTC wanted to add them to all water maps, not just Special Event maps. That strat system type thing for the CVs is a great idea IMO.
