dam strats and the dambusters
« on: March 31, 2009, 11:08:57 PM »
Just thinking, how about creating a small lake held back by a dam and power generator? the dam will provide power to electrical machines in a zone (e.g. the radar and...the radar). If the dam is destroyed, the radars in the zone will become disabled for 15 minutes (time outage can vary, i didnt want to sound ridiculous). This will be like a mini-HQ but only the field dar rings will be affected.

To keep with historical accuracy, Lancasters would fly with one bomb that was 50 inches in diameter, 60 inches long and weighed 9,250 lbs. Of this weight, 6,600 lbs was powerful RDX explosive. The bombers would have to fly at precisely 220 mph, 60 feet above the water and release the bomb about 425 yards from the dam wall. If not, then the bomb could roll short or bounce over the dam causing no damage.

Of course, the dam will be heavily defended using auto-ack and puffy ack. Again, there would only be one dam per zone and this would provide power needed to operate the field radar rings.

Didn't I mention that? I dont think I would have asked for a dam without asking for something to blow it up  :D

What would be the benefit of adding a complex manmade topographical alteration to a game that has its terrain consist of very simple tiles with very predictable inclines? Sure it could be done, but it would have to be player made, because I certainly hope HTC isn't going to put more time into designing complex terrain features than designing new aircraft. And seeing as how player made alterations to strat are not allowed in MA terrains, this idea has very little chance of going anywhere.

So with unlimited game production resources, sure why not. But there are millions of other, more important things that should be added first.

+ 1  :aok  This would make it more interesting to disable radar, which is a huge resource when protecting/ attacking a field.

What would be the benefit .......(edit)

Well, it would change things up quite a bit.  Knocking out dar for an entire zone!!!  Like he says a mini HQ effect.  That would create yet another region where air combat could be drawn.  As I read somewhere, Hitech's intentions in gameplay (base capture) is to encourage air combat.

As long as it has measures in place to avoid gamey tactics.

I hesitate to post this again, but it shows why the dambuster bomb is useless in any TRUE simulator... Here is visual evidence of its ineffective nature.

Oh yeah that would be a great addition to the dams defenses:

1.) auto-ack guns
2.) puffy-ack guns
3.) drunk German sentry playing goalie

The lancs wouldnt stand a chance!  :pray

BTW, there would be a torpedo net surrounding the dam just like in Real life; consequently, paving the way for the "bouncing" bomb. Probably wouldn't need the Lancaster's bomb site either as this would pretty much be an eyeball drop.

 :lol Thats too funny. :aok

I just bought the original movie, ordered the DVD, cause I hadnt seen it in so many years. Just a great flight flick, even the corny special efx worked still.

On a related note Peter Jackson is going to direct a re-make of the film next year for 2010 release.
