question about monitor

looking at purchasing monitor.I found one I like both are samsung 25.5 widescreen 1920by1200 5ms lcd but one is hd.Is the hd worth the extra 100 bucks

under 5ms is what your looking for. You may get some blurring with a 5 ms screen

That's the one I bought , it's sweet as hell, no ghosting. I play EVE Online with it and it's gorgeous. I bought 3 monitors at once, not one dead pixel between them, and they all run great with DVI C/N.

HD is a TV term. the more expensive one probably has hdmi input. all you need is DVI or even VGA(which isn't bad either).
5ms is good enough for gaming, of course 2ms is better.

I thought the speeds went 2ms and then to 5ms and up. That means only the 2 ms is faster than the 5ms.

I can notice slight ghosting on my 5 year old 17" Hercules Prophetview that has 20ms response.  But it's non-existant on my 5ms Viewsonic.  If it came down to it, I'd choose better warranty/color/constrast/build quality of a 5ms monitor over a 2ms one.

Heck I have a monitor with 8ms, and notice nothing wrong.  I guess if I had a 2ms/5ms/8ms line-up I may be able to see the difference, but with me, unlikely.
Now to clean it, I keep seeing "cons" that wipe away.

I have several 5ms monitors, I've put them thru the paces and back again...There's no ghosting, not as far as my old eyes can tell anyway. I wouldn't obsess about getting under 5ms, it's definitely not worth paying a large amount extra for over a good 5ms LCD.

The speed of an LCD is all about trade-offs.  The faster the speed the lower the color saturation.  However, some manufacturers simply compensate for the lack of saturation by using a much hotter/brighter backlight, which can lead to faster and higher failures of the 'pixels'.

Backlighting with LED's show the best promise for current LCD panels.

Once we get to OLED panels, all this becomes a moot point and we will finally have really good monitors again.  Yes, I went there.

Yes, they are pricey, but the life of the OLED has already been improved substantially.  The current OLED panels being shipped are expected to have a 10 year life.

By the time they reach near current LCD prices, they will be a much better alternative to LCD's.  If they ever build that plant to make the large glass panels (special surface design) needed by the OLED technology, the cost will drop like a rock.
