The speed of an LCD is all about trade-offs. The faster the speed the lower the color saturation. However, some manufacturers simply compensate for the lack of saturation by using a much hotter/brighter backlight, which can lead to faster and higher failures of the 'pixels'.
Backlighting with LED's show the best promise for current LCD panels.
Once we get to OLED panels, all this becomes a moot point and we will finally have really good monitors again. Yes, I went there.
