I think this wish has gone from good to a great idea.

Wasn't going for great, just like to reduce the current annoyance. I'm just surprised it's been this way for so long.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, don't you also get a pop-up message if you try to fly a plane that is unavailable (or ENY'd out)?

I agree that it is a PITA but it seems consistent with everything else.  It's a "dummy alert."   ;)

The alternative if it just automatically did not load what was unavailable would be a "you are unable to fly that plane" pop-up for bombers or, taking off in a "heavy" fighter only to discover you weren't heavy when you got where you were going.

It's like taking a goon for a base capture only to discover you're dropping vehicle supplies.

I agree.  It annoys me, especially if I'm in a hurry, but I see why it is there and the advantages to the way it is.

I think your "prompting" solution would work but would essentially do the same thing as the system that is in place now.

"The loadout you currently have is unavailable".  You unselect your wing bombs, try to take off, and "The loadout you currently have is unavailable" because you have a center-line bomb or drop tank.

It sounds good, but essentially it is the same thing we have now but with a warning first.  I suppose it takes away the surprise of an unsuccessful launch but, really, nothing more.

WW,

I'm not suggesting anything new, just a reduction in the current annoyance which would improve game play (must be the programmer in me). I also understand what HTC was trying to do when they took the path they did (I elaborated in my second long-winded post), I'm just saying they could have done it better. It's inevitable that you're going to get denied in the hanger or at takeoff because the available options have changed. The point is to make the process more intuitive and quicker.

You're right. What we have now works. My old '66 Rambler worked, Lotus 123 worked, but I'm glad to be rid of both.

I think I suggested that.
