wireless card
« on: April 08, 2009, 09:26:13 AM »
Ok anyone have any info on useing a wireless card to play AH? Also is the "slingshot" wireless card by sprint any good? It has either a 3 or 5 gb limit per month i believe?

I'm just looking at some options right now as currently we are running some freight loads where i do not have wifi access during my wait to be loaded and the load times are 3 to 6 hours. That's a lot of times i could be shot down....errr killing someone. :lol

Thanks for any input.

Ric,

Don't know if WiFi is different from a wireless internet connection at home.  I use a wireless internet connection at home.  Works great.  I was surprised.  For many years, BBS posters said wireless is ill-suited for AH.

You will always have more warps, discos, and/or switches to TCP using a wireless connection, regardless of the type of wireless connection, as compared to a land line.  Even a dial-up connection is less error prone than any wireless connection.

i was using ATT wireless and never has a issue with when i was in 3G area (when i had 2+ bars), thats was columbus area. it will vary from area to area. its when i was in 2G or below i had connection issues.  i know sprint is coming out with the new wimax in some major cities. maybe a good option to look into if your in one of those cities

Right now, Sprint is the only carrier in the United States to offer a 4G wireless signal. With speeds of up to 12Mbps and averaging 2-4Mbps,  For those who want speeds 3 to 5 times faster than competing carriers offering 3G, you’re in luck if you live in one of the following cities where the service will roll out in 2009:

    * Atlanta
    * Charlotte
    * Chicago
    * Dallas
    * Fort Worth
    * Honolulu
    * Las Vegas
    * Philadelphia
    * Portland
    * Seattle

Sprint also recognized that their plans are timelined into 2010 with rollouts expected in the following locations:

    * Boston
    * Houston
    * New York
    * San Francisco
    * Washington D.C.

You were having problems.  Just because you were not aware of it does not mean you were not having issues.  Just because a technology can mask problems does not mean they are not there.  Thank the TCP/IP protocol for the retries it will do when there is a bit error in the stream.

There is absolutely no way on Earth for a wireless connection to be as fault free as a landline connection.  It cannot happen.  It will never happen.

You know that brings up another issue how do i secure my wifi connection? Also someone was mentioning how to connect direct to AH through a wifi connection but he never explained how he was doing it.

Yea i see more warping on wifi than i ever did on dial up or cable, but it's still not really bad, more annoying than anything else.

I'm thinking i might just hold off for a bit more. Sprint seems to be the leader right now and a lot of there stuff is changing this summer into next year. Probably be smartest to wait for there new stuff to roll out and get some feed back on it.
