burn, burn, burn
« on: April 08, 2009, 10:57:46 PM »
Today was a great day for ranchers to burn.  Between five counties, smoke covered the sky from ground up to 2000 ft.  i had one burn today (20 ac) and will do another burn (1800 ac) next week.

Tsk tsk, shouldn't play with matches Oak  :D

I remember in Northern Ontario in 1995 the government did a 'controlled' burn to get rid of some bush.  The 'controlled' burn became misnamed after the wind changed direction and 2 towns had to be evacuated... oops.

lol, i bet what happen is they didn't have the right equipment, they where burning with high wind, and a bad burning plan.  Most of all, the area that they where burning may had decades of dead folage and absents of fire.  That's why the great Yellowstone National Park fire of 1989 was huge.

Fantastic. You read about the Idaho women killed by the smoke? Or the multiple crashes on I-5 in Oregon caused by the smoke from burns?

If you suffer from serious asthma, don't live near areas that often burn. Be it natural fires or controlled ones.
It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of nonviolence to cover impotence.

Controlled burns are the least problems when it comes to ppl killed in a car crash from smoke.  You have far more ppl dying from ice on roads, road rage and drunk drivers.  I don't know if them burns in Idaho and Oregon from control burn, fire bug or accidental fire, but you go to big cities like L.A, Denver, Phoenix you see snog above the cite most of the time.
Reason why rancher burn, it is a inexpensive tool to control brush and weeds compaired herbicide.  You could used herbicides but then you have that bigger problem of run off into the water systems and get into the food chain.  Then you have far more ppl battling health problems from that.
