It's A windy Day in St. Paul today...

...So i dug out my old Red baron kite and walked to the park across the street.

I go that Sucker at least 150 Feet in the air. I haven't flown a kite in 5 years...I had a Blast!

No successful landing though... just a few loops and a Nose dive. it was funny to hear a crash 200 Ft Away.

When I was a kid in Waukegan, IL--my mom used to get us "bat" kites.  they were shaped just like a bat--and you could design the eyes and mouth anyway you wanted.  There was no stabilization "tail" per se, so you did have to learn to steer it.  They were very mobile in the wind, and if you weren't careful, your bat kite went down with a crashing thud.

A few years later, I got into designing my own kites.  Box kites are pretty cool.  It takes some experimentation but making your own (don't use balsa wood) is definitely a learning experience.

Have fun dude!
