What makes it bad is that mac's are typically insecure boxes. Their owners usually take little or no malware precautions, and have huge misconceptions as to what malware is. The average mac user thinks windows malware is common due to bugs in the OS, but in reality malware targets 'layer 8' in the OSI layer. Hence mac's have always been as susceptible to malware as pc's, it's just nobody could be bothered with their tiny market share.
So now the same old question I always ask comes up again, which is more secure?
- a paranoid windows pc brimming with AV and AS
- or a smug mac with no AV or AS
I believe this will come to bite apple in the butt, as their 'official' policy does not recommend the need for AV software.
