<<<< still buys DVDs. No reason what so ever to get bluray. I was shocked that the less expensive to manufacture HD-DVDs did not win out.

One problem with HD-DVD was the hardware wasn't supported by different vendors, Toshiba didn't license the technology.  If you wanted a HD-DVD player you pretty much had to buy a Toshiba, or get the add-on for the xbox.

All in all I pretty much hate how HD content is being handled, and I loathe HDMI, Skuzzy hit the nail on the head.  I don't want to support a format that treats it's users like criminals.

I'm not too familiar with the advanced disk playback devices. Could any of you elaborate on what is treating you like a criminal and how?

I think they are talking about the Region codes which can prevent certain areas from using a blu-ray disk that is not ment for their region.

The wiki site has a section on it..

I guess it also employs several layers of DRM

Blu-Ray never interested me for entertainment purposes. The only interesting aspect about it, to me, was its storage capacity.

Thanks for the information Soda.
