So, there was I...
« on: April 30, 2009, 11:15:02 AM »
The end may just make you cry....

Knits P109 last night. I'm up past proverbial bed-time. I see a small darbar from a110 and we've been experiencing nuisance raiders (fighters) on and off. I up a Ki-84, climb like the wind, and come across B-24s coming in about 10k. I'm not in the best position, and take a pot-shot, but when he doesn't shoot back (in the bombsite! Perfect timing!), so I flame the lead, pop the left, and flame the right. I turn off and collect 3 kills from sacjoe.

This isn't the first or last time cons came in from 110, so I climb out around the edge of the radar ring. I see a dar bar but no cons so I fly into A110 directly. Below me low I find another box of B24s and an F4u1D chaser. So a safe descent later, I'm lining up on the B24s and checking my ammo status (450 13mm MG rounds, 60 20mm CAN rounds). Near vertical lead on the lead buff, perfect shot at the cockpit/wingroot, single burst, it's on fire. Pull up, 40 cannon rounds left.

F4u tries to chase, but doesn't have the speed I do, as I zoom way past him. I take a chance and come back down on another bomber. In one pass I fire 2 small bursts, both in a favorable spot, 2 gas leaks no fire. First one pops, sacjoe again! Break off from the F4u, he's repositioning to get me as I come down, but this time the B24s were firing back. So I take one more dive on the B24s, MGs only into the wing root of the wounded drone, set it on fire, and break off through a hail of B24 return fire, and possibly F4u gunfire. Now I break into the F4u, having saved my last 18 cannon rounds for him. He's in close now, 800 yards, and I break into a sharp left turn. I spiral up, correct so that I'm not just vertical zooming, and see him struggling to keep up. Full flaps, seeing the flashes from his guns, notice another sacjoe kill as the other buff pops in the buffer. To the f4u I'm just out of range, and as we go up and up, I see him stall out. I roll over, but misjudge how close he is as I roll, and don't have a guns shot. What I do have is the edge, and the fight is mine now.

Only as I'm looking to get back on his 6 oclock, he drifts off laterally, 800, 1k, 1.5k ... he's gone??? WTH? I check my buffer and see the dreaded "Lost UDP"!!!  Oh, cruel world! Denied my 6th kill! And my 7th (the last bomber). I wait, HOPING that it'll come back... I circle climb as if the F4u were still near me, aaaaannnnnd poof, connection lost and I'm on the desktop.

1AM on the dot. I thought that was funny. Now I wonder if it was HTC changing Titanic Tuesday back to normal LWA splits (that'd be 3AM EST for them). I didn't log back in to check (was too late) so shut down and went to sleep as I ought to have been anyways.

I wanted to cry and laugh at the same time!

<S> F4u1D pilot! You were "soooo" dead!  :t

Sacjoe must have had his "disconnect Krusty button" in that last bomber.  Should have hit it first.

Most people don't know about it.  You have to use the ".show sadclown" command.

Here's to you, Krusty!

I know what it's like to have the dreaded UDP message when you're on someone's six! :cry

P.S. Good, entertaining narration!
