Pawn shops
« on: May 01, 2009, 04:38:45 PM »
Have not been in a pawn shop for ages but decided to stop by a couple this afternoon. Last place I stopped had five Garmin Nuvis car GPSs without connector cable or mounting bracket. A lot of the places had similar type things that sure looked like they had been liberated from the original owner.

Just curious how correct my perception might be...

You're guess is probably correct.  The new "hottest" item to be stolen from motor vehicles are the GPS units.  Most people leave them in their vehicles not realizing they just left (on average) $200.00 dollars on the dash board for the taking.  Satellite radio systems are number two (2) on that list.

I just stopped in for curiosity more than anything. Suttle thoughts of maybe a new camping multi tool knife. The prices on a lot of stuff were nearly the same level as new.

I purchase a lot of Items from Pawn shops. Mostly tools but a few RC cars and other entertainment items. I never offer to pay more then half of what they have it marked at then work towards a decent price. Last purchase was a few days ago porter-cable air compressor. As far as items being stolen it is tough to tell I have noticed that the shops around here work with the PD and are very good on checking Identification.
