FSX with tileproxy
« on: May 02, 2009, 02:21:07 AM »
WOW, this add-on is incredible!

It downloads terrain from yahoo maps and other mapping sources in real-time.  Photo real scenery, 30cm/pixel resolution!  AWESOME stuff!
You have to have a FAST net connection, and a pretty beefy system to get the 30cm/pixel res, but it is adjustable to be able to be used on other systems, though I wouldnt bother if you have less than 1GB RAM, and a dual core.

From a distance the scenery looks amazing.

Pity that does not work in ah.  Even if it pulled the images and they were used as bases for a map it would be nice.

What happens if you fly under a bridge?

FSX still overlays the terrain with 3d objects.  One of the limitations of the tileproxy is that it is completely flat 2d, witht he 3d objects on top of it.  It actually looks best with autogen scenery disabled.  So basically if you fly under a bridge, you would fly under the 3d object, yet over the "texture" of the bridge as seen by the satellite.

Forgive my spelling and grammer, I am on percocets again.. another stinkin kidney stone.
