Saturday Night slugfest
« on: May 15, 2009, 08:43:51 AM »
yes i know this is a dual post, sorry but i want to get the word out and see if we can get some participation!

im trying to put together a squad V squad event. it will have to be squads of equal numbers will go against each other at contiguous bases. you will only be able to up from your assigned base and there will be certain limits and rules in place. the idea is to capture the other guys base using any means available. this includes bombers, fighters and gv's. we will use bases with equi-distant spawn points and everything will be fair.

i will keep track of the winners and we can have some sort of champion at the end. nows a good chance to challenge a group and find out how good they really are using EQUAL numbers!

this will be a game of tactics and intelligence and skill, not just brute force. i am trying to set it up for the AVA on saturday nights because that seems to be a good night for doing things. All squads are welcome to participate. events would probably starts around sometime between 9-11pm EST.

let me know how you feel about it, and if there are any takers! thanks

Sounds good. Maybe add a life limit for each person but since this is kind of a gentlemanly thing let each person keep their own score and when they reached the limit they can sit it out until the next round. Make it so if you are captured, killed, or discoed it would count as one life and if you land, ditch ,or successfully bail it doesn't count. Maybe have a staff member there and if possible have them run logs and post them afterwards.

"Log running" isn't that a woodsman event?  :D  Hey Saturday night is good for me.  My route (work) is shorter so I can leave later.  It is the only night of the week that this would work for me (jumps for joy). :rock

<funky idea>  Disable heavy bombers, C47s and maybe LVTs.  Have M3s and Jeeps for Allies, and SDK and Jeeps for Axis.  Disable heavy armor (all tanks, M8s, M16s, and Flak Panzers).  Give us some expectation of hangar hardness ....... however you would like to see it done.

Let me know if you guys think that is too FUN'ky.

the idea is to utilize all available iron, this is a game of tactics not necessarily brute force. you could up VH and FH hardness and lower BH hardness. you could lower ack to keep Ack running to a minimum. probably limit lives to aircraft.

the idea is to capture the other guys base! doesnt matter how you do it. but it would be on a squad v squad level.

IE 2 bases next to each other, JG54 V 353's. both squads try to capture the other guys base using gv's bombers, fighters, whatever is necessary. JG54 might decide to use all panzers, 353's can counter also having panzers but they might be better shots then jg54. jg54 might use panzers as a diversion, but then roll heavy 110's to knock out the town, and then drop troops, etc etc etc.

its anyones game, any hardware would be available to both sides. everything is equal.

I like your idea of a challenge.  I just have shudders from MA capture follies.  Magic resupplied Ports, single invincible Flak Panzer at the Maproom, Dive bombing Lanc/Stukas, NOE + goon raid.  I would expect something a little more refreshing.  :(

Hence, the one hand tied behind the back suggestion.  No, Flak Panzers, Tanks, LVTs or M16s to take the town down single handed.  No heavy bombers for the same reason as above.  No goon, so the troops have to be coordinated with an air attack and air support.   Pretty equal for both sides and a good excuse to use the rockets on the SDK.  :D  And in this case by all means harden VH and Barracks.

But, I can see why you might want the capture to be less difficult.

ok i see what you mean, but again the idea is not to let just anyone in, its a squad oriented event, not an individual event.

i get the part about flaks so you only allow tanks or M8's. realistically a tank wouldve taken out a town in the war, not a flak gun. you can also up the troops to make it more difficult.

again this is squad event, its to pit squad against squad. you could limit bombers to ju88's without formations to limit dive bombing or get rid of bombers all together and just allow heavy 110's to work on towns and tanks. knock out the other guys, ammo bunkers and he's screwed. its all teamwork not just individuals!
