Suggestion for 1.09 for Jabo's
« on: November 18, 2001, 04:23:00 AM »
Don't know if this has been asked for before but could we have a '.fuse XX' command or an alternate loadout to have bombs with a preset fuse time? I ask this because I enjoy low level jabo sorties but often you can get damaged by your own bombs if you are low enough and pulling up over an ack laden target is neither a good idea or historically correct. I saw a programme on Mosquito's some time ago and they interviewed some pilots who conducted attacks on Axis shipping and they said the standard fuse setting the RAF used for shipping and ground targets was 11 secs as they would fly in very low level, drop their bombs as the ships mast went under them and the fuse delay would give the bomb time to hit the side of the ship, drop just under water level then explode holing the ship below the waterline.

As HTC are overhauling the bombing system could this be added while you guys are under the bonnet tinkering with AH?

This mean you have to survive e.g. 11 secs after you dropped a bomb on a fleet, to get the ship kill.
Dunno if I had ever so much time left!  :D

I was thinking more along the lines for when we get subs and cargo ships etc but it would be useful now for low level level bombing, zip right over a target and drop while maintaining speed to evade ack and enemy planes.

Hi Revvin,

very good suggestion!

In Luftwaffe aircraft, the pilot could actually select the delay in flight, choosing from 4 options:

- instantaneous (dive)
- delayed (dive)
- instantaneous (level)
- delayed (level)

I'd guess the definition of the "instantaneous" variied with attack type, too ;-)

Similarly, the rockets carried by the P-51 could be set to "instantaneous" or "delay", too, with "instantaneous" arming the nose fuse of the rockets and "delay" the base fuse.

Regards,
