A change to the rules?
« on: May 12, 2009, 01:09:55 AM »
FSO is designed to distribute about half of the workload among the players in FSO, by use of CiC's. These CiC's are responsible for specific orders for their side, plane usage by squads, making sure all targets are attacked by T+60, and vectoring squads to other targets during the event

I can see that you don't want defenders to fly around the whole frame and have the attackers come in at the last minute but sometimes its kinda hard to meet this 60min rule when flying some planes on these large maps. Last week 353rd were given B17s and told to attack a target about 160 miles away from our take off base. We climbed to 20k and throttled back to keep a tight formation, but half way to the target we noticed we wouldn't make it in time. The bomber lead altered course and told us to go full throttle so we would make it to target before T+60. Because we had to run all out our formation was scattered, so when we did run into the enemy they didn't have a problem picking us off one by one. We made it to target at around T+63 but many of us died before we were even able to drop ord.

What I was wondering was, would it be possible to extend that deadline to maybe T+75 if that target is getting hit by bomber formations, but keep it T+60 for fighter/attack planes since they are a lot faster. This way bomber pilots can run at "Normal" power setting too keep a tight formation but at the same time are able to meet the dead line.

IMO - If you had leveled at 15k to 18k you would have been: (a) On target within the time limit.  (b) Not spread out and easy pickings.

Climb less, fly more.  It is up to the bomber leader to come up with the best course and altitude to get their buffs on target and on time.  Let your escorts worry about the altitude gain for your protection.

Squire had some 'far' targets to be sure. It was tough to make it on time.

Larry I think we had the furtherest to go and we made it right at +60 minutes. We did have to fudge our route a bit (red path) and turn south before the orders said. I wanted 25k for our bombers, but settled on 22k as we needed the speed to make it on time.

I don't see FSO upping the 60 minute rule.

I did not talk to Squire about his design in any detail, but considering he did not put in an alt limit (which some want) this could have been his way of implementing one since bombers would have to go level at a lower alt to make it on time.

I like the sound of changing the timing for bomber only. However, i don't think the CM will change that.

The T+60 rule is in itself, often an alt limiter for bombers, yes. Like I said in another thread, its a design consideration, and for this setup, we are staying with the T+60 rule for that and other reasons. "25K" for bombers is not a right, its something you can do when you can, within the limits of the frame. Other setups may have something different.

Flying 300mph, it takes 5 minutes to cross a sector.

So you could climb for half an hour straight, level out and cross 6 sectors (150 miles, not counting distance covered during climbout) in 30 minutes, and still hit target by T+60.

Like Odee said, climb less, fly more.
