The pics of the F15 flying and landing are fake.  The closeup pics on the ground are real.  This one is also real:
(Image removed from quote.)
As far as being able to dive out and recover with such damage this is exactly what the F14 did.  He sliced through another F14 during ACM and immediately entered a high-speed spiral at 450kts+ but managed to recover and land in Singapore.  The F14 did not have the computer augmented flight control system of the F15.  It only had analog stability augmentation which damped pitch/roll/yaw oscillations yet the F14 still made a successful landing.

The details I have heard/read was that this Israeli F-15 collided with an A-4 on
1 May 1983.  It was an F15D number 957 piloted by Zivi Nedivi with WSO Gal
Yeho'ar, both of whom left the aircraft on the ground.

If it is a fake, then it's an awfully long lived and elaborate one, cause I have
heard about it for years.

Please go back and re-read my post, I didn't say the mishap was faked.  Yes, the Israeli F15 incident actually happened but some of the pictures posted are fake.  The actual photos of the damaged plane are the four on the right.  The 2nd, 3rd and 4th pictures on the left, allegedly of the damaged airplane in flight are fake.  These were simply generated for the History channel video reconstruction.

I'm just pointing out that there are many images which purport to show something interesting are fake.  If you're interested in the details regarding how I know they're fake then let me know.  I can also tell you exactly how I know the picture of the F14 with nine feet of it's starboard wing missing is real.

LOL, yes I know the pilot and no, it wasn't me.  The pilot was one of our junior pilots in VF213, Fitz Fitzgerald, and his RIO was Scooter Lamoreaux.  I was the ASO and did the mishap investigation.  The picture was taken from one of our other F14's as Fitz and Scooter were trying to reach Singapore since there was no way they'd be able to make a CV landing.  We were actually thinking about having them just do a fly-by of the Lincoln and eject but figured there may be a chance to save the plane.  As it ended up the plane never flew again anyway as the titanium wingbox was twisted and could never be repaired or replaced.

I used to wonder about WWII planes being able to fly with half a wing as well, until I saw this picture of a heavily damaged TBM flying back home:

Well most planes, dont include a tampax, I mean Tempest with Right wing damage. Thats a pain in the prettythang to land.  :pray
Either that or the pressure of "Oh crap there goes a 50 spot"  :cry

Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.
