you cant use activision or EA as a example for anything, i would call those guys game company nazi's before any other national creed.
EA and Activision are the best examples to use, despite your views on them (which I agree with by the way). They are the two largest western developers, if not in the world. These are the studios that are flooding the market with sub-par games that they can milk for all their worth. These two companies have done a great deal to kill off originality in the western game market and make the independent western developer a rare breed.
