Right now I'm looking at two options when my lease is up on my 2007 Milan.

1.) Get a 2010 Milan.

2.) Get a used 06ish Mustang GT (with a stick) and throw a:

Hood with a Ram Air Kit (or I may go with a Shaker Hood Kit and a modified 1970 paint scheme)

Cervini's Side Exhaust kit (always liked the look since the 10.0L Boss from SVT)

C&L Cold Air Intake on it.

Our 7 year old son can now make the wife roll her eyes, by pointing out every Mustang we come across.   He really wants me to get a Mustang and further complicating things, I've always wanted one myself.   I'm hoping I can swing getting a Mustang because I KNOW, our son will want to help modify it.   He already helps me on my Jeep.

Phatzo - Stripping weight from an MC (that's usually already a homologation model) for racing, and gutting extraneous stuff from a stock modern production car are pretty different premises.

That's probably a tank made from something else that has a carbon fiber cover on it, or the outermost layer of the composite is the carbon.  Carbon fiber possesses very high electrical conductivity, and so not suited for fuel tanks--doesn't have anything to do with impact resistance.  Kevlar, fiberglass, and plastic hare extremely low electrical conductivity, so they are better alternatives.

can you afford to upgrade to the GT500? it has a supercharged 5.4 with just a smidgen over 500hp.
Heu ... no. For that price, I would get a used Corvette Z06. :rock

I might almost be tempted to get a new Challenger (a few of my coworkers have them, and love them),
They look hella cool, but they are very big cars, almost 600 lb more than the tangtang. Great highway cruisers.

As a side note, Ford anounced the return of the 5.0 in 2011 for the Mustang with 400/400.:pray
:lol I guess it's like computers, as soon as you are happy with something u just bought, something cooler pops up.

Substitute the color for blue, with blue custom pony interior, and this is the car I found on a used car lot for $600, in 1973, with 20,000 miles on it.

She was a '66 like this one with the same 289 V8, "one of the great all time V8s". Anyway it was my high school car and didnt have a scratch on it. It literally was driven by a little old lady and had been garage kept.

That was back in the "cruisin" days. With the 8-track players and all the cheap beer you could hold.

I have 3 Mustangs in my Toybox, but for myself personally have been on the fence on the S197 due to the 3V. That is just because I have a preference for the 4V

S197's are awesome and there is tons and tons of great things you can do with them. Even if you can't get the FRPP track pack, go with Steeda or Maximum Motorsports for what you want to do. I like the guys at Maximum for suspension (my early Fox is equipped with lots of Maximum suspension parts)

Maximum's site is here and they have a great amount of S197 Stuff: http://www.maximummotorsports.com/

On my Mod Motor Car (03 Mach 1), just with 4:10's, Auburn Pro, Steeda Tri-Ax, 31 Spline Shafts and SLP Cat Back the car runs 12.8-12.9 all day long. If I am running the DR's, I can hit a low 12.8. Pretty good for a car with a box-stock motor to the filter since the day I bought it 6 years ago.

What is really nice about the S197, is you can drive them and actually live with them as a car. Compared to the Fox-4/New Edge cars, they a LIGHT YEARS better in fit, finish, quality and ergonomics. My 03 has about 9,000 miles on it and my 84 5.0/GT-350 20th Anny car only has a tick over 80K. My 3rd is another 20th AE/GT-350 but, is one of the 6 Ford made with the Turbo 2.3 and T-Tops. That car is a resto-project that is years out from completion.

I was planning on getting a GT-500 to add to the toybox but, Ford dealers gouging really soured me when they first came out. I have been looking at the SRT-8 Challenger instead and will make the final decision when I can drive the manual SRT-8.

BTW, I got to add it's funny reading the "The LS-X MulletMobile will easily beat the Mustang, blah blah blah". Take it with a grain of salt, since 90% of them think the "track" is in the Walmart Parking Lot next to their trailer park. I have put bus-lengths of fully built WS-6's and have had my doors blown off by Mitsubishi's and vice-versa. It always comes down to BS stop's when the green flag drops and the driver.

Just like Smokey Yunick used to say "How Fast Do you want to spend"?

Either way, looks great and totally enjoy your new baby!

I drive a 2000 ford focus lx,  great gas mileage, but when I buy a new car, I will  be keeping it.  I plan on putting a twin turbo v8 into it.   New tranny, new rear end,  this car will go FAST.

If you're comparing mileage, you don't deserve either.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Um, understand that shoehorning that V8 in will be problematic enough.  But to "twin turbo" the V8 is another story.   Also, if you're converting it to RWD (recommended) you open up a few different cans of worms.   You're also looking at fabricating a new cross member, which cannot be half-assed, to make it just as safe.

I understand to desire, but what you are planning is not in the least even remotely close to "easy".

I agree.   It's like the people who drive Pickups/SUV's on the freeway at 60-65mph here in Michigan (Speed limit is 70) to save gas and not towing/hauling a single thing.   I have no sympathy for them not being wise enough to buy a car.

If you buy a Sports car/SUV/Truck, that LAST thing you should be concerned about is the MPG.   If you do, buy a car.   I drive a Lifted 95 Grand Cherokee and don't care what the MPG is, I drive it to/on and from the trails.

To me, the Camaro body looks good, but I do think I'll get tired of it quick. The killer for me was the interior. Big cartoony steering wheel, shifter knob the size of a melon, star treck looking guages inserted in huge square windows reminescent of a 1970 alarm clock. Big uggly stereo knobs out of a Fisher Price toy.

I mean performance is one thing, but you have to like what u see because it's going to be 100% of the time in your face, actually blowing someone else's door off in a straight line ... once a month maybe? And that's all the Camaro SS can do for now, because even with 115HP more and an IRS, same slalom numbers as the Mustang GT

In a couple of years, when Pontiac is a fading memory, these are going to be used-car steals.

Yea.  Parts are going to be expensive and take a while to get delivered, but they'll still be around since the car will still be made/sold in Australia.

If I had some lottery winnings in the bank, I'd do 3 things.

1.  Do some restoration to my trans-am and then mothball it for my kid.  If he doesn't like it, fine, I'll drive it again.  It's a really fun car that unfortunately isn't suitable for having 2 kids, and it really bothers me that I have to sell it.
2.  Buy a G8 GXP as my weekend driver.  Whooooeeee that's a fun car.  The only reason I didn't get the GXP instead of my GT was gas mileage.  It gets like 15 mpg on the freeway because pontiac put a really really low diff ratio in there, making it a terrible car for daily commuting.  But it sure is a fun car and my whole fam would fit in it.
3.  Get a corvette for a daily driver to commute with.  They get great mileage if you don't drive like a fool and they're about as fun of a car as you can get when you DO want to drive like a fool.

Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

THOSE GUAGES YOU REFERENCE  in the console, are just about the same as those that came in some 69's. they're actually pretty cool looking i think, although i prefer my guages up higher so i don't have to look away from the road to see em.
