need help with computer...

Hi, i got a new CPU and attempted to put in into my computer. When I did this it would not start up, by that i mean nothing would appear on the screen. I tried to put the old CPU into the computer and the same thing happened. Then it stopped running completely. I tried a new motherboard with both CPU's and still no screen. Now when I start it it runs for 5-10 seconds and dies out. I would highly appreciate any help. I figured I would try here before I take it to geek squad.

This might get more publicity from the right people in the Hardware and Software forum.

My guess is that the power supply isn't plugged into the motherboard correctly (one pin loose, perhaps?), the power supply is dying/dead, the CMOS is messed up. Try unplugging the PSU's power cable feeding the motherboard then plugging it back in. You might want to check for any blown capacitors on both your motherboards. Afterward attempt to reset the CMOS while the motherboard, processor, and the power cable to the motherboard are all installed properly.

+1 on PSU.  Also when you replaced the heatsink and fan was the MB in the case or out?  If it was in the case you mave have a slight warp causing a short with the case.  This is what comes to mind right off with what was stated above.  One other thing, did you ground yourself before touching any of the components?

Verify that the CPU fan is plugged into the CPU FAN connector on the motherboard.
