New (extra) Hard Drive Question
« on: June 01, 2009, 02:59:04 PM »
Heya guys, got what I hope is a fairly simple question for you. I was able to walk outta work the other day with a Seagate Barracuda 80gb Sata 2.0 Hard Drive. Windows XP shows it as ST380815AS. It also shows up in the bios. My question is, why can't I seem to access it? It doesn't show up in "My Computer". Wondering what I've done wrong or what I need to change to be able to access it. I mainly just want to put my music/photos/etc on it, but don't understand why it shows under Device Manager, and in Bios, yet I can't seem to see it anywhere else in XP. My other hard drive is also a SATA 200gb Seagate Barracuda. Any help is much appreciated.

edit: I may have just inadvertently answered my own question, not sure if my HP Frakenstein Mobo actually supports SATA 2. That is the 3.0gb/s transfer rate. The original HDD is set at Sata 1, which is 1.5gb/s....gonna try dumbing it down in bios and see how that works out.

edit #2: Well, I don't have the option of dumbing it down, and the bios does recognize it as a Sata 2 3gb/s drive. Kinda lost at this point.

To to Administrative Tools then Computer Management then DISK MANAGEMENT... if the drive is there format it and you should be good to go.

You have to initialize it then format it in Power Panal/Administrative Tools/Disc Management
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
