Question for the system gurus

My home built desktop is about 1.5 yrs old. Today, and about six months ago I encountered a problem whereby the system (hard drive?) wouldn't boot for more than a second or two...just a constant power up/power down repeat. In both instances I cleared CMOS and the issue was resolved.

My question is: what caused this to happen in the first place?

I sure don't know. Make sure you have the latest bios. Maybe a os reinstall will help.

I'm not sue I'll be able to answer anyway but did it get to or through the post screen then power off trying to boot Windows or did it not even post?

How are clearing the CMOS? If there is a switch on the back make sure it is not on clear. I had that cause some issues before.

This time around, the computer was in standby mode, when I pressed the power button I wound up with a Pepto Bismal PINK, blotchy monitor. I went to power down and that's when the problem began. Dunno if the two are related but ever since I installed a 9800 GTX EVGA card, the blotchy-pink monitor has happened a few times.

ah Rgr, don't use standby mode. I've had issues with that as well. Put on Always on or home/office mode. When I had it on minimal power I couldn't get it to come up at times.

I agree, always leave mine on, only thing that gets powered down is the monitor.
