Flying the N1k2
« on: June 04, 2009, 06:51:02 AM »
Greets all!

Is there anyone out with the time/inclination to work with me on improving my Niki ACM?  I have been flying this plane exclusively during my 6 months' of AH, and would really like to improve my skills. If there are any Niki pilots out there willing to help please let me know!  I typically work until 1700 EST, and am available anytime after that!  Thanks for your consideration!

The vast majority of players have no clue how to fly the niki.

Most tend to fly around trying to face shoot everything they see and that really is a shame as it is a great ride if flow properly.

Give me a shout if you see me in the arena.

It has been my main ride for six years or more.

A big strength of the N1K is the view around the nose, if you page up and or left to right you have a very good view.  This allows for awesome high deflection shots.

I don't have a clue what you are talking about.

The Niki head position can barely move UP (especially after HTC remodeled it) and I would not call the view when up (or left/right) as one of its "strengths".

Being able to drop flaps 40ish kias faster than a spit is a "strength".

Not to mention having 4x20mm cannons with a good cyclic rate and accuracy. Sweet , "flaps out" spiral climb as well, can hang on the prop like a champ.

If you see a Pony/FM2 coming in for the headon, take the shot. If they are willing to take the head on, then they are either foolish, realize that it is only a game, or Enker.

or...

you can use the enemy's poor choice of going for the head on attack as their merge to do some very basic ACM (*cough* break turn)  and shoot said enemy down in 1-2 moves.  I supose YOU don't mind getting damaged but me?  I don't mind waiting the extra 3-5 seconds to kill them.  (not to mention never allowing them a free shot at me)

WHY would you purposefully give the enemy that free shot on you?  Sure the 4x20mm of the niki should "win" but at what cost?  Even if you don't die right off from being dumb and HO'n the nme is STILL going to land rounds on you and damage ya' ensuring that your NEXT opponent kills you.  (so in my mind, you died to the HO)

With a Niki you have too many options to just "give up" and be "stupid" and fly around trying to HO the nme.  I almost never ho.  I almost never get ho'd (though they try).  I manage to keep (usually) over a 10 kill to death in a niki tour in, tour out w/o ever resorting to a head on.

Enker might be "ok" with one kill (or less) per sortie but I for sure am not.  Every time I take off I plan on landing with kills.  Givin' my opponents free shots on me is not very conducive to racking up kills and landing them successfully.

Clonk, it is as I said at the very beginning, almost nobody in the game has a clue how to fly the Niki (for example: Enker, Chewiex and Belial).   When I say almost nobody, I mean it.  I can only think of 1/2 dozen player over the past 6-7years who really understood and knew how to fly the Niki and had mastered even a few of the Nikis many tricks.

Enker is gonna put WMlutes name on a bashing cup, lol.

Clonk, I'd be willing to work with you if you can lose the 'tough talk' you were giving me the other night.  I just happened to be flying the N1K because you guys were flying them and I'd thought it be fun.
This goes for most fighters.  The first advice I can give you on is with the merge.  The times I got you in the DA, you started pulling up before we actually merged while co-E, (ie:crossed wing tip to wing tip)giving me a huge advantage immediately.

Try and get below my nose on the merge with the mentality that you want to fly under the other guys nose and get his tail in the merge.  This makes thing at least even at the start and if the others guys is pointing down and you up, you are at an advantage more times than not.  If you blow the merge and try to continue the fight, you are most likely doomed.
Anyways, I'm on most evenings and am willing to help as well.  MA, DA, or TA
