I think our .50's in aces high only model two of the three types.

Ap & Tracer, the tracer being just slightly weaker than the .50 Ap.

Why?  Nine outa ten chance he's shooting at targets 200 or 800 meters infront of him with a gun convergence set ~500.

Tiger, all MG rounds in this game (even the more robust .50 cals) are pretty weak/useless unless you get a good concentration/shot at the proper weapon converegence that you set in the hanger.  When used properly, they are very potent.

While I understand convergence and the power of hitting the convergence point, the muzzle velocity does not change because he fired at 500 yrd vs 300 yrds only "drop"  and some loss of kenetic energy at the longer distance IFRC the .50 cal muzzle velocity is somewhere around 2700 fps so at 4500 ft roughly the round would have been traveling about 2 seconds the projectile weight about 1 ounce I think.  So some expert can tell ya how much drop it had at 500 yrds but the kenetic energy at that range shouldn't be affected much.  This does not of course take into account vararing plane speeds.  My point is that one .50 cal bullet hitting your cars engine block would do alot of damage at that range, not sure how it is modeled here.

I have to say one thing about the .50's.  I am an Army Combat vet and Ive seen the "Ma Deuce" tear through almost anything including armor.  I will back P1 up on this, the .50's should take any flimsy airframe to piece's in the WW2 era.  I have the same problem, I can lace an nme ac with .50's and he continues flying, but then I can do the same with another type of MG and destroy them almost instantly.  Now, I am just wondering what a good convergence for the 190 series 20mm cannon ballistic wise, and also the Hispano's on the Spit's and Hurries

I'll wager anything reasonable that looking at the films of this would prove you wrong.   There's no weird twilight zone that the physics objects in the game fly into to go weird on you like that.  50's are the best banked MGs in the game.  303s or Bredas etc don't outperform them.  It sounds like you've got some combo of spreading the 50s around, properly concentrating all the other MG types, and some random luck (running into a plane already damaged, etc).
A 1/4 second burst, at convergence, with 8 (and often enough 6) 50's, kept in the same spot of almost any average sized A2A target will be the end of that target's fight.

While you maybe hitting the target, you're not hitting in a concentrated spot and instead peppering the plane in multiple areas.  If you hit the plane at the convergence point, you'll see how deadly the .50 cals can be.  Planes like the P-38 with nose mounted guns, the .50s are very potent weapons and will usually kill another aircraft with a single burst or at the least cause significant damage.
