Last night for some unknown reason i tested some airplanes offline and found some surprizing things....
First, before i decided to mock chuck yeager, I was flying some aerobatics over A1 and pretending to preform an airshow over the field. I would go back and forth and zoomed around..bla bla bla. heheh Anywho, My routine developed into a sort of a U pattern over the field, I would start by diving down buzzing the field a few feet off the deck then pulling up hard and zooming up as high as I could go, winging over go straight down and do the whole thing over again.
The pattern was sort of like a fullpipe that skaters and bike guys ride.a--- U---shape. Anyway i started taking note of my alt AT the apex of my zoom and my MAX speed crossing mid field. BAM!! An idea hit me<dangerous>, lets test various planes to see what happens!
The test procedure was simple, do a max preformance Takeoff, level off, go about a .5 mile out from RW centerline and zoom climb as hard as I could, wingover < i would keep a 90 degree straight verical climb until the plane stalled, no kick overs> and start the U pattern.
I first started in a YAK-U <my airshow airplane> and after I had established myself in the U and after I peaked out I noted my ALT 5500+/- 200feet and mid field speed 400mph+/-10mph, i figured that my zooms and my pullouts would vary, but they stayed very very close.
Purty fun, lets try that niki and see what happens.....<drum roll> SAME STATS!
Whatttttaaa..i did this for a while and the results where the same.
Well, this implies alot of things...to mention a few...niki accels same as YAK, niki zooms SAME as yak.
No way..No way...
Did it with the p-38...SAME STATS!!Same alt peak, same Midfield crossing speed.
Whaaaaaaaat?
I must be carrrzy!
I finally said, ok I KNOW the p-47 anit gonna hang with that<deep down wishing it would> did the U pattern until peek performance and ended up with about 4k instead of 5.5 sometimes 4.5 with wep. Also i was 50mph slower on avg crossing midfield.
So the p47D-30 was 50mph slower in the U pattern and also was 1.5k lower on avg in zoom climb.
Anyway all planes had 50% fuel for the test and all flew out of A1.
Someone else please try this if they have the time and let me know what they find. Thought it was sort of strange that those 3 flew so identical. But, Like i said, im certainly no test pilot.
I'll make a flim of it if anyone is interested.
Take care,
LaVa
