When I first started playing AH back in '05, I was using a Saitek ST290 pro, worked great for 2.5 years, then, I upgraded to the Logitech Extreme 3d Pro, used it for a year or so and upgraded again about 6 months ago to a Saitek X52 HOTAS system. All in all I really never had any major issues with any of the sticks except the X52. It loses calibration in flight at least 2x a session. The Logitech stick is still working fine and is my back-up and the ST 290 Pro I had to send back to Wal-Mart for replacement after 6 mo due to "axis failure". Realistically, its users choice, everyone has there likes and dislikes when it comes to their equipment. I'm sure within 6 months of playing AH, your gonna want the best of sticks, throttle and more than likely, pedals. Welcome to Aces High vettim89, you'll find your niche, flight controls and combat style.

I think it might have been AkAk with a similar concern ref: loosing settings while in-game. If I remember rightly he bought a separately powered USB multi port controller to plug his equipment into. I use one myself and have only lost settings once or twice in the past year or so. I do, however, download my stick setup into my stick every time I start my computer and I also calibrate in game anytime I change arenas.

The USB self powered controllers are fairly cheap and will never hurt your system. But, it could help people with this kind of problem.

Not my original idea for that purpose. I had way too many USB thingys and needed a way to plug them all in. I just happened to go with a power USB multi-port box.

Hope this helps.

Ren

I thought about that Ren, but I think my issue may be in the link to the joystick from the throttle. I never lose cali in the throttle portion only the flight stick itself. Its like I'll be in the middle of a dogfight and then the lights blink on the joystick part and down I go. If I unplug and replug the cable that connects the joy to the throttle, all is good and I can do a quick in-flight calibration and get back to fighting again. If that sounds like a power issue, then may be I will pick one of those powered USB hubs up and give it a try. It gets very frustrating when it happens 1 or 2 times, but, it has done it up to 10 times in the span of an hour.

It's very possible that one part of the setup might work perfectly yet the rest needs recal.

Multiple USB ports being used have a power requirement. I used on because I ran out of room and figured it can't hurt.

Wish you luck.

Using an X52 for about 2 and some years now I believe and it's given me little problem. My biggest complaint is the wire that connects to the back of the joystick comes lose every once in awhile.
