Type 2 KA-MI
« on: June 21, 2009, 05:56:36 PM »
would be a great armored vehicle addition for the amphibious group

As early as 1928 the Japanese Army had been developing and testing amphibious tanks and created several experimental models such as the SR-II, the Type 1 Mi-Sha and the Type 92 A-I-Go which either never made it off the drawing board or were produced only as one-off prototypes for concept testing. In 1940, The Navy took over development of amphibious vehicles and two years later came up with the Type 2 Ka-Mi. The Type 2 Ka-Mi was designed for the Navy's Special Naval Landing Forces for the amphibious invasion of Pacific Islands without adequate port facilities, and for various special operations missions

                                                                    specs

52mm main gun, and armor so thin that 50cals and 30cals can penetrate, and almost certainly was NEVER used for original intentions.

Hell, most Japanese tanks served the war stationary, as pillboxes. The quality was extremely inferior compared to most other countries in the war. The Japanese simply put their intellect to work in other fields of development, IMO.

Then again, a vehicle/aircraft doesn't have to be good or better than the ones we already have, in order to be added right?
Take for example the B5N.

Agreed, it would give us something to kill the tigers hanging out on shore with. Even the 8 in batteries cannot kill those tigers.

Looking at that picture, it looks like a basic tank, with some hydrodynamical fairings attached to it?

There were a lot of variants that I saw pics for.  But yes hydronamic as you say.  Wonder if it could drag race and beat an LVT?   :lol

It would be a welcome addition to get AP capability on shore from a fleet.   :aok

I cant imagine its AP capability being much more than the Soviet 23mm AP fired from the IL-2, but hey... it cant be worse than the 75mm HE fired from the LVT4.   :)

I believe the 75mm howitzer on the LVT(4) was capable of firing HEAT rounds -- but I wonder how often it used this ammunition, given the fact that any Japanese tanks they encountered were fairly easy prey for standard HE rounds.
