AHII Locking up
« on: June 17, 2009, 03:09:10 PM »
I'm using an AMD 64 Dual Core Processor and have tried every solution that has been posted. When I start AH I have no spinning clipboard and everything seems fine, but when I click offline practice and the offline menu comes up my game locks and I have to hardboot to get out. As I said, I've tried every solution for Dual Cores, including running it in compatibility mode and nothing seems to fix it, so maybe it isn't my processor? My video card is an Nvidia BFG 7200. Could this be the problem and is there any way to fix it?

A 7200?  Go into the game's "Video Settings" and change the "Maximum Texture Size" to 256.  Do not run the game resolution higher than 1280x1024.

See what that does.

Nothing. I don't understand...the card I used before was an integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 200 and it ran the game just fine. I thought the BFG 7200 was better. Is it just Nvidia cards?

Did you completely remove the old ATI drivers before disabling the onboard video chip?  Did you disable the onboard video chip.

The 7200 is a very low end video card, but it will work with the game.  You just have to run down everything you can in the game as the card will not handle large textures, and its resources will be easily overwhelmed.

Also, you must not use the latest NVidia drivers from the NVidia WEB site.

Changing video cards from one manufacturer to another is always more challenging.  Geeting completely rid of the previous drivers using "Driver Cleaner", or re-installing the operating system are really the only ways to insure the change goes well.

I did a complete reinstall of Windows XP. Maybe I should go back to the Radeon?

Well I tried just going back to the Xpress 200 and now the game works just fine. I was always under the impression that the 7200 was better than the Xpress but I suppose I was wrong.

it might not be the video card because i have a 3.0 p4 processor 2gb of RAM and a 6800 gt and i can run full sliders, 1280x980 res. and 1024 high res textures and I pull a good 45-60 fps average never going below 30. Have you updated the drivers to the 7200.

The 6800 is a MUCH better performer than the 7200.  Think of it this way with NVIDIA (in general).  FIRST digit is the 'generation' of video card.  SECOND digit is how GOOD the card is of that generation.

6800 = Older Generation, but very fast
7200 = Newer Generation, but very 'entry level' (slow).

Likewise you might was that a 7900 is better than an 8400... or an 8800 is better than a 9400.  A lot of it has to do with what the video card is being used for also... example.. the 9400 would support DirectX 10, whereas the 8800 might not.

I think he'd have to have at least a 7600 to be comparable with performance to your 6800...
