Yes, I do check the logs. I would suggest your read the rules.
From launch to T+15 a planes may reup if they took no battle damage. So if they ditch, crash, disconnect, etc. withing T+15 they may reup as long as they took no damage. This was implemented way back when to cover the cases of disconnects, or a person's stick going funky (happened to me last night .. had to disconnect stick and reconnected it and calibrate it), or if they have difficulties taking off from a CV.
Now in the case of the GV pilots this applies to them when the initially launch at also when they reup with their second lives. Although they don't get a 15 minute buffer. Basically they tell the setup CM they are up and he closes the field.
Otherwise outside this initial buffer of 15 minutes if you are killed the night is over for you. If you ditch or crash or bail the night is over for you. If you actually engage the enemy within 15 minutes for launch and take battle damage then no reups for you.
FSO is a one life event and in some cases a two life event. The only exception to this is during the initial T+15 when combat is 99.9% impossible to happen.
As for those people who do reup (reup during the GVs taking their second life at a base but who weren't apart of the GV force) when they are not suppose to. The CMs do look at the logs for that and if they find that it is an illegal reup they hit that side with a penalty.
