Just wondering, if B5N pilots get a 2nd life why not give a 2nd life to D3A pilots?

Have to agree, there. D3As are only barely more survivable than the Kates, especially going up against F6Fs.

This was a topic of discussion with the other CM's while I was working on the design. After much discussion with a few of the senior CM's, I added the second life for the B5N2's. Primarily this is due to the fact that they have no forward guns. If we had the B6N's that were actually used in this battle it would be different, but we don't. The D3A1 does have forward guns and can maneuver very well and at least fight for it's self, something the B5N can't do. Also, in this design the D3A1's will be used in very small numbers and will have plenty of escorts.

After frame 1 I will review the results and discuss them with the other CM's. If we feel that the small number D3A1's are truly that vulnerable then a 2nd life will be added for frame 2.

My personal perspective is that FSO should always be a one life event, regardless of a particular aircraft's strengths or weakness (but that's just me). The most important point to focus on is the creation of a fun and balanced event for everyone. So, I will always be willing to change a design to achieve that goal, if it's needed.

Thanks,
Baumer

Yea, I agree, but if your giving one aircraft a 2nd life then I feel it's ok to ask for another aircraft in it's class

I appreciate your asking, and it will be addressed after frame 1 if the outcome warrants it.

As to the matter of the 2 aircraft being in the same category, take a look at the logs from the Midway FSO last year. Totaling all three frames, the B5N's were credited with just 8 kills, compared to 37 kills by D3A's. Also, don't forget to look at the number of assists, it's about a 3 to 1 ratio that the Val had over the Kate. That's why I believe the D3A can protect it's self much better than a B5N.

After an EW incounter with NB (I think) in a D3A vs my Hurri 1, I never again looked at a D3A as just fodder. Flew them in Midway FSO and found the F4Fs coudn't touch me. 2 D3A working together can take 1 down easy enough. I don't think they will kill too many F6Fs, but if the F6 starts turning with em the Zekes will eat em alive.

Flew AGAINST them in Midway FSO and would have done just fine if it WAS only 2-1. 120 vs. 10 is a different story...

Frame 2 will be during the Dayton Air Show.  Many FSO players will be gone for that week including several AK's.  Would be a good thing to postpone Frame 2 one week for the air show returnees.  Betty has a big list of who's attending.

Or maybe during Frame 2, squads aren't penalized for being understrength in commitment levels.

Thoughts on this.

Thanks for pointing that out AKKuya, I will discuss frame 2 with the FSO team lead, and get back to everyone.

Frame 2 will not be postponed. There are many weeks left before that date. Squads have ample time to invite replacements and get them up to speed.

B5Ns have no forward firing guns. D3As do.

in frame 3 will the carriers have lights on them for the night landings assuming they are not on fire?
