They didn't call it the Grumman Ironworks for no reason; F4F/FM2/F6F.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

you've obviously not fought me in my 38's. i think the crewchief gives me the defective ones.  :rofl :aok

Well, I mean, when I do take them down, it usually takes a pretty good amount of time unless I'm diving on them, and they're AFK. They're definitely not like other A/C where you can just give them a short burst, and leave 'em. Usually, it takes 2 or 3 long bursts of 4 .50s from my 39 (unless I hit 'em with the 37 of course). The first usually does either nothing, or radiator, 2nd, is radiator/engine/flap or aileron. The 3rd will either make it blow up, or cause enough damage for it to go down.

38s have always given me the most trouble when it comes to killing them, it's a good combination of the pilot flying them, and their ruggedness.  :salute

Also, my best fights have usually been in a 38, or against a 38.

The thing I notice most with the P-38s is that they're only DECEPTIVELY large, and much smaller targets than you would think because of the configuration. Shots that would be sawing the tail off most opponents just end up passing through that big gap between the booms, so you almost have to lead them more than other aircraft during deflection shooting.

The fact the P-38 has two of a number of components means that snapshots that would cripple or be outright fatal to most opponents (engine, radiator, vertical stabilizer) the 38 can limp away from. Most of my 38 kills either come from cockpit shots or destroying the horizontal stabilizer.

I'm game to go fly a friendly practice in the DA if you'd like to test out some ideas on a 38.

The biggest weakness on many 38s is the ice machine. It is downstairs. So if you time it right and catch the pilot refilling his blender.... well.....

Me 262, you can't really catch up to one unless you catch one taking off, low and slow, or landing.

Ar 234, same reason except you can catch one if you dive on it but you only get one pass.

P-47N, you make one solid pass on it (would kill most planes) and fly away and then your screwed if you don't watch your back.

B26, smaller faster B17, smaller makes it harder to hit and it only cut 2 guns out from the B17, and hey, it has 6 forward firing .50's that will ruin your day.

P-38 if a good pilot is flying it, it is just a hand full to fight, and I'm not an expert.

:lol Your right about having bullets travel right through the gap in the booms.  If your aims not on that's what will happen. I've been having a lot of fun hunting P-38's down in my Ki lately. Think I got about 15 of them so far.

It also has a small profile for such a 'large' fighter.

I think that was more or less the point I was trying to convey. ;)
