IC Mixer
« on: June 17, 2009, 09:53:02 PM »
After a freetrack build I'm feeling frisky.

Anyone have thoughts on how to build a simple 2 in 1 out (passive) mixer? I.E. Laptop In and iPod In going through to Headphone out. Ideally with a mute button for the iPod input.

I haven't looked at the wiring for a headphone jack, so I'm not sure what wiring comes off it, and if it can just be tied together or if i would need some resistors. Preferably a build that doesn't require a flux capacitor.

Feel free to flame me for my naivety.  :aok

http://www.audiolines.com/home.php?cat=770&sort=price&sort_direction=0 <-- MX 400 - But it doesn't have a mute button

http://alrightdeals.com/Item.htm?Id=S4_Cables_0___AUD110006 <-- 2 of those and (3) 3.5 mm to 1/4" adapters and your set.

Building your own without resistors the super cheap way:

Get these -- http://www.wiredco.com/35mm-female-female-stereo-audio-coupler-gender-changer-p-319.html , http://www.wiredco.com/35mm-male-235mm-stereo-jack-molded-headphone-splitter-p-318.html

The Ipod would go through a   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normally_closed   , which would be your mute button then a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potentiometer to control volume.

The computer would go through a pot to control volume.

The Headphones would go to the output (male) of the splitter with the male to female coupler

You probably could even skip the pots, since your computer, and ipod already have volume controls.
