Wireless keyboards/mice

How many people here use them, and what do you think of them?   

I would guess they require additional background processes that reduce AH performance, but I don't know for sure, or what the performance drop might be.

Just planning my next system add wondering if going wireless would be worth it.  It'd be nice to have fewer cords on the desktop.

I've used a Logitech wireless keyboard + mouse for ages and love 'em both. Don't think I've ever read a post attributing a performance issue related to them.

Oboe, I use Microsoft's.  Works great.  Wireless multimedia keyboard and mouse.

I like wireless keyboards and mice for general use.  I hate them for gaming, because (with every one I've ever tried) there was a noticeable delay between clicking and the click "registering" on the system.

I had a wireless mouse at work for a while.  I hated it and made them give me a wired mouse.  I hated having to wake it up all the time and then the batteries die when you're in the middle of something.

I've had a few wireless mic over the years and I did a lot of FPS gaming.  The first was the MX700 by Logitech.  Worked great and I wore that puppy's paint off good.  Battery life varied from 10-30 hours depending on the age of the batteries, but they were 2 x NIMH AA which were easily replaceable.

I finally replaced it with the MX1000 Laser wireless.  This had a rechargeable lithium-ion battery in it which laster probably 2-3 weeks during heavy use without charging.  At the 2 year mark of owning it the battery life began to become noticeable worse.  I'd get irritated if I was in the middle of a game and my mouse started to flash the recharge button.  With a custom non-replaceable* battery pack, I had to keep it on the charger for a couple hours at least.

*At this point I tried to find a replacement battery to order, but you couldn't get them through Logitech (at least through their website).  I searched the web for a replacement but never found one.  So I bought a G9 Wired Laser, very happy with it though its not as comfortable.  Apparently its pretty easily to find batteries now for them.  I imagine I bought that mouse when it first came out and I did heavy use on it so when I needed a replacement, no mfgers were making them yet because of limited demand.

I use a Wireless mouse and wired keyboard (just easier for me, but was very happy with my wireless one) and have no troubles.  I use a Logitech LX 6 mouse, the batteries last 3-4 months, and when the "Critical" warning appears typically it has 5 days left of battery life, although I drug mine out for 1 1/2 weeks.  The nice thing about the LX6, it is the first wireless mouse I have had that worked with only one AA battery even though it uses two.  There has been no Jumping, lag or anything of the sort with wireless things I have had until batteries got to the "dead" state.

With Logitech there is optional Software for programming the buttons (With mine it is needed for the 'scroll wheel side to side' buttons), but it does not hit performance at all.
The software allows programming of buttons/keys on any Logitech keyboard/mouse attached, and it warns when batteries are "Low", for some reason a lot of wireless mice makers forget to do that.

It will pop a message at first start up "The batteries in <Name> are critical and should be replaced", then it keeps an icon in the bottom right of the task bar, <Symbol of two batteries with a Critical sign>, and the mouse will flash the little red battery light on the top of itself until new batteries are put in.  There is no way to miss that the Batteries are low.

Depends what kind it is. G7 or G9 works amazingly well for gaming.

I use a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse  http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard_mice_combos/devices/3072&cl=US,EN  and love them both.  It doesn't require any extra processes running to play the game.  I turn off everything non essential to play and my keyboard and mouse both still work in game.  I don't plan on going back to wired keyboard or mouse.

I've been using microsoft:

Model 1011 Keyboard
Model 1007 Mouse

About 5 years of use now, with no problems.  Battery changes every few months, and 2 extra processes running.  I can shut down both, both then i lose volume control from the keyboard.

Gave up on wireless years ago, went with a good Labtec wired optical 3 button and never looked back.

I use a Logitech G7 and love it. There isn't any difference on the system since the conversion is done before the USB port.  The system sees it the same as any other mouse.
