A-5 vs A-8 snapshot
« on: July 10, 2000, 05:49:00 AM »
It is my (subjective) feeling that 2 20mm + 2 7.9 mm snapshot from Fw 190A-5 is quite less lethal than 2 20mm + 2 13mm snapshot from Fw 190A-8.

Again, this might be just subjective feeling, but my question is:

Is MG 151/20 loadout on Fw 190A-5 different than MG 151/20 loadout in Fw 190A-8 ?

Could this be effect of different ammo mixes (He vs AP etc) ?

Is the RoF of MG 151/20 on both planes same ?

Could it be just difference between 7.9 mm (slugs) and 13 mm (HE, apparently) ?

BTW, I believe MG FF loadout in Fw 190A-5 to be wrong, it shows a total of 780 cannon rounds, while it should be 620, right ?

The MG151/20's should be the same on both aircraft.

And I don't believe that any of the machine guns in the game have HE shells.

The difference in the two aircrafts snapshot capability is (like you said) between the MG131's and the MG17's.

A single MG131 produces about 112kJ/sec for a one second burst, while the MG17 (synchronized) produces about 48 kJ/sec for the one second burst.

So basically the machine guns on the A8 are 2.34 times as effective as the machine guns on the A5.

Yes but all machine guns (except the .50's) are SISSY guns. In a snapshot, I have, at the most, .5 of a second to land hits. Hitting with one extra cannon round should negate the  mg difference.

I think I'll do some testing; no MG in both A5 and A8, and see if it is something else. I heard someone mention ROF before, but that might be just a rumour.

I.e I have the same subjective feeling as Hristo, but I acknowledge 100% vermillion's points (hard not to). To me, the difference or subjective feeling is proportionally much larger than the hitting power of the two mg's ought to make it.

At any rate, the A5 is a fine aircraft

It is 2.34 times more but what increase in fire power is that compared to the 151/20s pretty small I would think.
I dont normaly fire the MGs on either plane.
Could they have modeled the 151 mine round in the a8 but not the a5..would proably be historical...
