The F8F holds a time to climb record I believe, followed in mere seconds by the F2G.

I believe Daryl Greenameyer holds the world's speed record for piston aircraft. He did it in a highly modified F8F back in the 70s. It was previously set in 1939 by another highly modified aircraft, the Me109. This was a prototype of Willy Meshershmidt's, not a production Bf109.

Damned RLM! The He 100 V8 was faster than the Me 209, and broke the existing record(held by an Italian seaplane) before it.

Yep, another Macchi :-) It (the Macchi) still holds the record for seaplanes...50+years later :-)
