GPU upgrade - I think
« on: June 26, 2009, 07:43:51 AM »
Toying with a new graphics card. I recently bought an LG M198WDP monitor, got it for a ridiculously cheap price and running it at a resolution of 1440x900. System spec as follows.

Q6600 oc'd at 3.6 Ghz (2 x 250mm fans in case)
Biostar Tpower I45 mobo
2 GB OCZ pc2-8500 reaper ram
850w Akasa powermax psu
8800GT gpu.

Was looking to get a blu-ray reader with new graphics card to watch better quality movies. I dont need it for the new beta (after trying it out for a while my fr was 65/70).

I've never had an ATI card before but was considering an XFX 1GB 4870. Any other ideas? Budget will be around the £150 mark

About $245 USD I'm guessing.

It's fast and if you're running XP 32 bit, you might not want to run the GTX260.

a 1 GB card is gonna take away from your resources .. may want to add another 2 gb of ram .. and the 1GB versions of cards are usually nerfed somed.. compar it to a 512 4870 ...

Adding ram will do nothing if you mean the card eating 1 Gb of memoryspace. On the contrary he'll spend money for nothing with the displaycard eating up the 1 gig of addressable space.
