It says it's currently set at 1280x1024 and the maximum that you can get is 1600x1200 although those are slightly different aspect ratios.  If it's an LCD you should set it at it's native resolution, whatever that is.

But the max res shown by dxdiag is reported by the driver. If you do not have the correct driver for your display (i.e. generic driver) the max resolution is not correct.

Consult your monitor manufacturer support pages for native resolution.

Yes, the monitor INF file is not loaded, so Windows is using a set of "safe" defaults for the "Plug n Play" monitor type, which may not be correct for you monitor at all.

so how do you change the settings on that? I dont know what the max res on my new comp is, i havent had time to fool with it yet but I did notice the graphics look the same as my old comp that is six years old. I know it can look better I just have to adjust something I wonder if that setting is in the video card software.

You install the proper INF file for your monitor.  The manufacturer usually keeps those files on their WEB site.

When you go into the "advanced" settings for the video card, there is usually a "Monitor" tab where you can install or change the INF files.  Think of it as a driver for the monitor.

Ok Great! I will definetly fool with that tonight, I just read that the ratio on my new comp is 1600x900 you think that will give me crisp clear high res?
