Selection of Side & Aircraft Assignments
« on: June 28, 2009, 08:48:19 AM »
VF15 Satan's Playmates (DET) is a new FSO squad (pending approval).  I am the XO (SlipKnt) and Rodent57 is the CO.  I am still getting through the "know how" of the administrative processes for the frames & operational orders and will volunteer to do CIC duty for our squad when ready (I only ask that y'all give us a little bit of time in perfecting the squad operations before tasking us as CIC).

Question #1:  Can we request side assignments and if so, how and when?

Question #2:  When and where do we post requested aircraft?

We look forward FSO!  Thank you all who put so much into this event.  It is the reason I keep coming back and am proud to be a part of it.  Thanks to the 325th Checkertails for showing us the way!

Welcome
When your squad is approved the CM's will allow you to assign an administrative password.
Go to this site:
http://ahevents.org/fso-related/friday-squad-ops-welcome.html
Here you can view the side assignments and make changes.
It is also where you can view the logs after each event.
As far as CiC, they usually want a squad to experience several rounds to get
experience and the feel for the event before being assigned.
There are several things you will learn just participating that are necessary before running a side. Things like proper comms, 1 life rule, etc.
You'll have a great time

Some misconceptions, you do not get to pick your side or your ride, they are both assigned. The CMs assigns your side prior to the tour and the frame CiC assigns your ride (although you can post a ride preference).

You must stay within your participation commitment levels, but you are not allowed to pickup walkons who show up in the arena on frame day. You can however bring guests, which can be a small distinction, but recruiting a walkon who shows up a few minutes before the frame can put you on a watch list.

Hamltnblue covered the CiC conditions. Be sure to follow his link and read the rules, plus all the stickies at the top of this forum.

Edit: And welcome to FSO.

Thank you for the "Welcome"!  Many of us have been flying with the 325th Checkertails so from a squad member standpoint, we should be good to go.  I am just nervous about the CO/XO thing as the responsibility and planning awareness have increased.   :cry

I am trying to memorize the rules and procedures.  If I ever cross the line in any way, please let me know.  I am extremely approachable and handle constructive criticism well.

FSO is why I truly enjoy Aces High so much and I look forward to going to the next level in FSO participation.  I will continue to increase my level of responsibility as I get better at it.

We really appreciate what you guys (and gals) put into it.  Thanks again for the welcoming information and additional information and links.  We look forward to participation!

Frame 1 CiC has always presented a bigger challenge to me. Often I did not get word I was up to bat until late Sunday. With Frame 2 and 3 I could work out many details on a Saturday or Sunday even before getting the objectives from the CM. Also had a frame or 2 to compare how the planes matched up, bomb tonnage allocated vs damage etc.

For this reason and others, I strongly recommend that a squad utilize all 4 email slots available. Have come home late on a Sunday and not checked email till Monday evening to find that I have to have orders out by Wedsday night. Not easy between family and a day job.

And then there's the Frame 1 CiC magnet: CO sick in hospital and XO working a shutdown. Feel for them, but 4 emails better insures the store is always minded. At least someone can ask for a replacement if need be.

The sooner you know, the better you will fare.

Welcome Viper61 to the Fso family. The other Co's have informed you well on how to do things.  I will give you some pointers on things that I came across and learned in my beggining.
1. Get a up-to-date mailing list of your squad and make sure you Xo and 3,4, guy have them as well.
2. Watch the objectives carefully and read the rules til you kow them by heart.
3. Be careful of your numbers, minimums and max's.  ( I went over my number one time and SLED spanked me, Scared me to death).
4. Don't be scared of the CIC role.  Any of the Co's in the FSO's will help you with the process.
Hope some of this stuff helps you. TUk151 Co (13MPG) :salute

We have our 4th and all 4 of us are dependable.  I see that our target assignments are out on 1 July.  How do I view them?  Thanks again!  We have been looking forward to this for some time.  Thanks again Viper61 and all of the 325th Checkertails.  We truly appreciate your mentorship.

SlipKnt, I will be mailing the objectives for frame 1 out shortly. You will receive a copy, however your orders for the frame will come from the CiC. The CiC should have the orders out to their side on the Wednesday before the frame. Since we have 2 weeks off (due to the 4th of July holiday), I'd expect you'd see the orders early next week.

<S> and welcome to FSO.
PM me with any questions you have, and I'll be glad to help.
