Can't add or change gunsights

I'm in Visa Home Premium running an AMD Dual Core 2.6 ghz 5000+ with 2 gb memory and an Nvidida 8600STGTS video card. 

I've added gunsights before to AHII but can't get them to work now and I notice the gunsights page is gone off of this sight.  I add the bmp files to the "sights" folder and confirm that they are there.  But the game won't see them.  When I pull up the game, it never shows them.  I've even changed existing file names to default_old.bmp and renamed the file I added to default.bmp.  Still doesn't work.  Went into users/low/virtual store/HTC/Aces High II/sights and all that's in there are text files associating the sight with the plane.

SO....where are these guys really and how do I add/fix the sights?

All I can think of is to make sure they are saved as .BMP and not something else or that they are 256 colors.

Just guessing though. 

Vista?  I haven't a clue.

There all .bmp files.  Heck I even tried to add one as a .gif file to see if that would work because the CFS and CFS2&3 would accept either one.  The screwy thing is not that they don't work (lots of things can cause that), but the darn program doesn't even see any changes I make to the folder.  That's why I'm thinking it's hiding the info somewhere else.  Found some files under the Users area, but no bmp's are showing up in there.

I have a dive bombing sight, and a couple of fighter sights, I'd like to use, but game won't find them.

Anyone else have any ideas?

If you installed the game in the default location, you will have a nightmarish time getting things like this to work due to Vista merrily relocating all our game files to a virtual store under your user name.  You will also have a number of other performance related problems as well.

Make sure the game is not installed in its defualt location.

Yes it is installed in the default location and I'm familiar with the "Virtual Store" under the User files, but the sights .bmp's never made it to that location.  The .txt files in the sights folders assigning specific sights to specific planes made it, but not the bmp files.  Sounds Like I best re-install in a different location than the default "program files".  Probably do that tomorrow and see what happens.  Everything else seems to be working fine with decent performance even with the video maxed out.  Really need my sights though, so I'll try a re-install to someplace like C:/games/Aces High or something like that.

You will get better game performance once you get it out of the default location.  What Vista/Windows 7 does to the "Program Files" folder and everything in it, is just wrong.

I'm ROFLMAO....I went in to install it to C:/games/Aces High.....and already had it installed there.  I copied my gunsights over to "sights" in this location and it works fine.    Wasn't working before because I was copying them to the "program files" section and that's NOT where I was running the game from.  I totally forgot I had changed the install on this already.  Feeling pretty silly now...
