Personally, I'd never want an "upgrade" OS. Even doing a "clean install" would then mean you'd have to overwrite files and let it jury-rig itself to the next OS. Unless they're sending me a full Windows 7 disk, no thanks.

When you install W7 x64 the whole old OS will be moved to a separate folder and installation is made in a clean folder.

I only keep a 15GB partition for my OS and programs that ought to be reinstalled with the OS, so unless you can specify where they're dumping the old one that would be an issue.

It goes automatically to windows.old folder.

If that's on C:\, I can't do it without resizing my partition, which would be no fun at all.

In my experience, you can't do that with an "upgrade" disk.

You have experience from Vista upgrade and later? Because clean installation is what sites everywhere recommend when upgrading to Vista so same applies to W7. It only needs verification.

I never said anything about "Vista and later." Obviously if I didn't know the above, I have no experience whatsoever with them. My experience with Windows XP and ME "upgrade" disks was that you could not use them for a clean install. That's all I was saying.

is not as hard as it seems if you use the right software, Ozz..........

I use "Paragon HDD Manager™ 2009 Pro"  and it is easier than slicedbread to readjust my partition sizes........

their are a few other partition programs out their that work nearly as good........

I do have a certain disk that contains many partition tools, but I've read many a horror story of files being munched up. Besides, this drive is reaching 80% capacity on the bigger partition as well. I dunno...I'd just rather not mess with it unless I could find someone with an external hard drive to back junk up onto first.
